

What is Upward Bound?
Upward Bound is a year-round program where students receive services during the academic school year and also during the summer. Students meet weekly with their Upward Bound advisor in their home school to focus on academic skills, career exploration and college preparation as well as participate in tutoring, community service, skill building workshops, college trips and leadership activities.
Academics
Weekly meetings with an Upward Bound Advisor October–May
Academic Plans to improve grade point average
Focus on improving time management, organization, study skills, test taking skills
Weekly after-school Academic Support Nights and tutoring
Career Exploration
Interest Inventories and exposure to different careers
Help identifying college majors for particular career fields
Cover letter writing and resume workshops
Job shadow opportunities throughout the school year
College Prep
Assistance with the entire college application process and fee waivers
Preparation for SAT/ACT exams and fee waivers
Assistance with filling out college applications and writing the college essay
Assistance with filling out the FAFSA, understanding Financial Aid and applying for scholarships
College Trips
Each quarter students will get the opportunity to visit colleges in the Capital District
Senior visits to colleges they have been accepted to
Community Service
Each quarter students will volunteer with various community organizations.
